Niall Ferguson


Niall Campbell Ferguson is a British historian from Scotland. He is the Laurence A. Tisch Professor of History at Harvard University. He is also a Senior Research Fellow of Jesus College, University of Oxford, a Senior Fellow of the Hoover Institution, Stanford University and visiting professor at the New College of the Humanities. His specialities are international history, economic and financial history, and British and American imperialism. He is known for his provocative, contrarian views. Fergusons books include Empire How Britain Made the Modern World, The Ascent of Money A Financial History of the World and Civilization The West and the Rest, all of which he has presented as Channeltelevision series.

Ferguson was born in Glasgow, Scotland, onApril 1964. His father was a physician and his mother a physics teacher. He attended The Glasgow Academy. He was brought up as, and remains, an atheist.
